After more than a decade working in the mental health field, I (Steve) decided to start Resilient Therapy to help serve the mental health needs of the Cleveland and Bradley County community.
My career began working with the Youth Villages' Transitional Living/LifeSet program in 2012, where I became licensed as a Licensed Professional Counselor with Mental Health Service Provider designation (LPC/MHSP) in 2015. From there, I was hired at the Lee University Counseling Center in August 2015 as a staff counselor/therapist. I was eventually promoted to assistant director and training coordinator, where I helped oversee the management of our office and training program for graduate students completing their internship.
Early on during my time at Lee, I started researching the role of resilience and mental health. We cannot ever completely prevent suffering, which is why resilience is such a relevant topic for everyone and not just college students. Resilience helps us effectively navigate the pain of life in ways that move us forward well. Through my research and experience with clients, I have developed a model for cultivating resilience called the "Resilience Diamond". I have seen how the principles found in the Resilience Diamond have the power to help people navigate through the worst life can throw at us.
My hope with Resilient Therapy is to help both my clients and the broader community turn stories that could destroy into ones producing growth that otherwise would have never occurred. The primary way I do this is through individual therapy, but I am also available for workshops and speaking engagements designed to promote greater resilience and mental health for anyone.
